Yes, Scoop Me Up really was inspired by a real spoon.

It was 2016, and Zack Poitras had just moved to Los Angeles from New York City. He was having a rough, lonely day, and decided to poke around a Goodwill of Hollywood Blvd and take his mind off things. He likes visiting vintage and thrift shops - you never know what you’ll find.

He came across a huge bin overflowing with old, used electronic parts. Then something caught his eye - a metallic, curving rim. What kind of electronic is that? Zack dove his hand into the bin, and felt a metal bar he could wrap his hand around. Then, from the mess of plastic and wires, Zack pulled out a giant, four-foot spoon.

“That’s a big spoon,” Zack said to himself. He looked at the spoon. Instantly he noticed the spoon was unlike any other, and size had nothing to do with it. There was something about it that conveyed personality, even warmth. He instantly loved it. Then he saw the spoon’s price tag: $5. FIVE DOLLARS?!

On his way home, people immediately started catcalling the spoon: “Big Spoon!” “Yo, that’s a big spoon!” “That spoon’s awesome!” Big Spoon was an instant celebrity, and brought a smile to every passerby’s face. The whole Big Spoon experience that day certainly made Zack completely forget his troubles - they both scooped each other up into their love.

Since day 1, it was painfully clear that Big Spoon deserved to one day star in a short film. That film eventually became “Scoop Me Up,” a film celebrating not only Big Spoon and spoons themselves, but also Cape Cod. The cranberry bog was as much an inspiration as anything, and everyone’s forever grateful for the chance to shoot there.
